Frustrated that we couldn't get the internet working, my girlfriend and I dug into the emergency home video entertainment stash. Some of it was dusty. We hadn't used it in a while!
There were many DVD boxsets of animated TV shows from the 90s and before that even. We sat happily and watched them while keeping an eye on the modem LED indicator. It was great! We relived memories of these shows. We even reminisced on when we bought those DVDs. It was when the push for Blu Ray was around, loads of DVDs were on sale, and the Great Recession was kicking in.
Back then, DVD stores were going out of business and clumping together into one. We spent hours browsing their stock and picking out good stuff to watch. Our internet connection wasn't as fast back then and we foraged for entertainment to watch during those winters.
One thing we missed about those days was that people finally acknowledged there was a recession. Now they're back to pretending that the economy is good again when it really isn't. If anything it's getting worse.
My girlfriend and I thought about this and compared it to our memories from years ago. We held each other, wrapped up in a blanket for warmth, and watched shows from back when we were kids in the 90s and didn't have to worry about this stuff.
