Exams were over and I was walking back to my girlfriend's place with a pizza I just ordered. It was our favourite: crispy bacon and sausage toppings. The student community that lived on this street was buzzing with parties. It was a warm summer night and I was feeling good. That all came to an end however, when I looked in the corner shop window and saw my girlfriend's parents asking about her. I broke out into a run.
My girlfriend's parents were pretty horrible, especially in the past year when their marriage fell apart and they selfishly blamed everything on her. They said they were going to take her away from college because her dad had to pay for her mother's new house. We had avoided them pretty well until now.
My girlfriend's place was much like the other houses on this street. It was tall, narrow and full of classmates having parties. She was much quieter though and preferred watching movies with me. She was waiting for me in her room on the fifth floor. It was noticeably quieter than the other ones.
With the noise of the party her classmates were throwing, I couldn't shout up to her. I had to go inside and push my way through the crowds of drunk people to reach her. Her house was nearly all narrow stairways.
I got up to her at last and told her about her parents. She looked out the window and saw their car outside already! We could hear their voices downstairs telling people to get out of their way.
My girlfriend grabbed me and jumped out the window. The fire escape was about the only modern thing about this house. We scrambled down and she got into her parents car. "Hop in!" she shouted as she revved the engine. I jumped in just in time to see her parents faces roaring at her to stop before she drove us away.
We went far far away to a quieter place. There we enjoyed the pizza. There was a lot to talk about but for now, we just enjoyed this moment of togetherness in our young lives.
