It was a strange old time in videogames. There was a big push to make them like movies and the last of the surviving gameplay console companies was just about hanging in there. In what seemed like overnight, a big ugly company came out of nowhere and tried to destroy the videogame scene entirely by trying to buy their way in.
I watched my friends drool over the big company's marketing and I fell into a deep depression. I was so disgusted I didn't want to play videogames with anybody anymore. I began to just play my handheld device with my hoodie pulled over my headphones.
I spent a lot of time online too where I started hearing rumours of a revolution. I made new friends with this common interest and one of them became my girlfriend. When this revolutionary console was unveiled, she and I looked at it with wonder... It was so different, yet it was without any doubt a purehearted videogame console. We talked about it a lot and our imaginations went wild. Our relationship blossomed beautifully around this and we often played handheld games together.
When the big company's console came out, I didn't even recognise my old friends anymore. They were jumping all over it like apes and they were playing a mainstream sports game! Since when were they into sports games!? My girlfriend and I looked on from a distance. We held each other, hoping the revolutionary console would save videogames. It eventually did, but it was a tough time waiting for it.
