My girlfriend and I decided to revisit our old school from when we were growing up. We noticed lots of changes, but it was largely the same and we got super nostalgic.
We were able to walk into the school yard but there were new signs that said no one was allowed in after school hours. There were specific bans on stuff like photography and peanuts.
We walked to different parts of the schoolyard. Most of the grassy areas were paved over in cold concrete and all of the trees were gone. We loved climbing them back in the day and we missed them. We used to find frogs in the grassy areas all the time.
The only grassy area that wasn't paved over was the part that was transformed into a thing called a sensory garden. It was prettier than the muddy wet grass area we knew, but at the same time, we missed it. The big cartoon faces were nice but it was all synthetic.
We felt sad that so much had changed. Then it started raining heavily. The only place to take shelter was the shed, which was almost exactly how we remembered it! We went inside and balked at the garish new paintjob, but the long bench was still here and so was all the graffiti!
We found graffiti we had made declaring our love for each other with our initials. Suddenly we were happy again. The rain continued to pour for quite some time, but we didn't mind. We were happy to stay a bit longer and talk about old memories.
