49 A Nice Walk Away From The Job Zombies

All I wanted to do was to get home to my girlfriend and our dog. Everyone I met on the footpath and in the supermarket were stopping me to ask me what my job was. When you're unemployed this is no fun. Everywhere I turned, all I could hear was "JOB JOB JOB" like I was surrounded by zombies who only knew that word.

People in the aisles droned "JOB JOB JOB" at me. The radio that was playing in the shop droned "JOB JOB JOB" on a current affairs programme before switching to a song that had "JOB JOB JOB" sung to a beat. I bought some groceries for dinner and quickly left.

People on the footpath made "JOB JOB JOB" small talk to me as I hurried home. I met dozens like this and it was exhausting to deal with them. When I finally did get home, our dog greeted me. It said "Woof! Woof! Woof!". I was so happy to hear something different!

While I was putting the groceries away I could hear the TV going "JOB JOB JOB". I went in to the living room where my girlfriend had the same weary look on her face that I had. She was unemployed too. She had an internet search engine page up on the computer where she was looking for recipes to make for dinner. However, the results were all "JOB JOB JOB". "Hey hun" she said, "I don't know what to do. I can't find any good recipes to make for dinner".

"That's ok" I said, turning off the TV and giving her a kiss "I've lost my appetite anyway. Let's go for a walk with the dog. Maybe that'll bring our appetites back!". My girlfriend perked up and thought it was a great idea.

Together we took the dog out for a walk. We avoided the main commuter areas and just went along the beaten path. The dog was stopping and sniffing every few seconds. It had no problems with appetite! At one point we met someone who was out for exercise. We feared the worst but it turned out to be a regular guy who was out for a JOG JOG JOG. We sighed with relief and were happy to see someone else who was enjoying something else in life.

We got back home from our walk. My girlfriend was inspired to make the most delicious dinner we had eaten in quite a while! After she washed the dishes, she joined me on the couch in the living room, where we laid in each others' arms for the rest of the evening. Our dog laid down on a rug nearby. It was just us in our own world, while the job zombie apocalypse was going on everywhere outside.
