I hated competitive games. The trouble was they were the only kinds of games that anyone seemed to play and every single person I knew who played them were absolute jerks.
I got an invitation to go to an event with consoles all with that one game. They told me that girls were gonna be there, including the one I liked. They said that this could be my big chance.
Without telling them, I decided to stay home and play a cooperative survival game instead. I thought for a moment about the girl that was gonna be there but I didn't like my chances of being heard over twenty other dudes trying to get her attention.
The girl logged on.
Her: Hey
Me: Hey
Me: Did you go to the game tournament?
Her: Yeah but I left. Why weren't you there?
Me: Eh... they're too loud. Why did you leave?
Her: A fight broke out and suddenly it was twenty dudes punching each other in the balls.
Me: Sounds about right
We spent an ingame sunset evening together. Then we decided to go for pizza while the evening in real life had a real life sunset for us. I played a new game from then on.
