308 The Girl Who Rounded me up with her Sheepdogs

Back in the day, there were many little wild walks in the countryside around the village. Sometimes I bumped into this lovely local girl who had three big dogs. She didn't keep any of them on a leash. You didn't have to in those days.

She was a lovely girl, very easy going and ready to smile and chat. I was a lot shyer and often avoided people, going behind a tree or something whenever I saw someone on the path.

The dogs always spotted me though, without fail. No matter what I would try to do to hide, I would see a dog looking at me or feel a dog's cold nose nudging me back in the direction of its owner. They were sheepdogs but they were just as good at rounding up humans.

"Hello again mister!" she would say as I walked towards her, the three dogs behind me, nudging me with their noses. I would join her and we would walk at a slow pace, chatting about all the things in the world.

I always cursed at the dogs whenever they found me but would always appreciate it when they brought me to her. Whatever the initial trouble I had with approaching her, I had even more trouble saying goodbye to her at the end of the walk.

At our wedding, the dogs were there, dressed up and nudging me up the aisle. It was quite a humorous sight but a very typical one, only now we were all dressed up and official. I never was shy around her again and I haven't said goodbye to her since either!
