One morning I opened up my college e-mail to a message from my lecturer, complaining that attendance was bad for our virtual class. I rubbed my eyes and groaned. I couldn't believe this was happening. My girlfriend came up behind me and used my shoulder as a pillow, asking me what was up in her sultry tired voice.
I told her. She was like "whaaaaat..." and groaned too. She was in the same class as me. We both knew we weren't getting a holiday, but we really needed one.
We made apologies, promises and other pleasantries online. Then we closed the e-mail and went back to bed, both feeling annoyed and stressed. Playing hooky for an online thing wasn't fun. There was no adrenaline rush, no one calling to your house, no one catching you loitering somewhere with your girlfriend, no chase... no excitement... just a vague feeling of annoyance and stress.
We both looked at each other. We weren't excited at being bad kids, we were just half asleep. Then we were three quarters asleep as we leaned in to each other. Then we were fully asleep.
