I gave up saying "Any news?" as a greeting and started saying "Nice day!" instead. It was because the news was really really bad and made everyone depressed. It even endeared some girls to me, even one girl who I wouldn't normally meet...
She turned to me and her face opened like a flower, beaming a huge smile, saying "Yes it's a lovely day! How are you?!"
It threw me off my usual path so much that I had to stop and tell her about how I was doing today and she seemed really interested too.
With every word I spoke, it looked like she was filling up with more and more delight. She told me about how she was feeling and the stuff she said was so beautiful I was transfixed. I don't even remember what she said, but it made her look even more beautiful.
We talked and talked all afternoon about who knows what. It felt like I was saying nothing but I was having such a good time doing it. It was all thanks to the weather and definitely not the news. In fact, we forgot the world for a while.
