My girlfriend and I always did Christmas shopping before the crowds came, but we would go right back to the shops just to check out the crowds!
We looked at the queues, the stressed look on people's faces, goods flying off shelves... meanwhile we would sit around looking at them or even browsing stuff that wasn't in any demand at all. When we got tired of the music playing in the shops we would go outside and listen to carol singers.
Pushing through crowds wasn't always fun and we were amazed to see just how many people there were who shop at this time of year compared to other times of the year.
We would then go for a meal in a quiet place, which wasn't easy to find. When we did we reflected on the non-shopping trip.
