My girlfriend is big into conspiracy theories. She worries about a lot of things I don't even think about most of the time but I always have an ear for her.
The things she comes out with... gosh I can't repeat most of them here they're so outlandish, but the one that actually makes me feel genuinely uneasy is the idea of another recession.
In my lifetime I only really experienced one recession and that was the Great Recession. It pretty much ruined our generation's only hope for freedom in our lives, and we were only just coming of age.
Now there's this upcoming recession that's mentioned now and again here and there and my girlfriend is recording every bit of information she can about it. I usually enjoy her rants and raves about silly conspiracy theories and I love how passionate she gets, but this time I actually feel very troubled.
Because I can see things happening in people's lives. They're making decisions I saw people making in 2007, but now they're giving away even more of their freedoms in order to survive. Hasn't our generation suffered enough already? We lost so much on that wave that swept away so many of our freedoms back then and now another wave is coming.
Many couples dream of building a life together, but my girlfriend and I are preparing for emergency. Instead of a dream home, it's a bunker; instead of planning for children, we're going to raise livestock and guard dogs; instead of saving money, we're stockpiling resources.
