Christmas presents were all bought, but now I had to find and buy supplies for when the shops all closed for the big day! With my girlfriend by my side, we scrambled around the supermarket with a shopping trolley.
We hunted for wrapping paper, sticky tape, labels, milk, crisps, cereal and chocolate - all the essentials! We were like squirrels hiding nuts away for the winter. We met local people doing the same and greeted them with Christmas cheer. There was a strange feeling of something coming to an end and it was a lonely feeling, but greeting our neighbours and friends helped us deal with those feelings. Some neighbours we hadn't seen in a while and we were happy to get to check in with them.
When we arrived home and safely thank goodness, we put everything away and the cupboards were full of food and other supplies. We were going to be okay but... I really needed a hug. My girlfriend knew this and surprised me with a big warm hug and a kiss. We looked out the window. The lights of the shops in the distance were switching off for a couple of days, but we switched ours on and kept them on. We were ready for our Merry Christmas.
