In a fit of despair I abandoned the human world and went straight to the river. I bought myself a houseboat and vowed never to set foot on dry land again.
I found a new life on the river. It provided for all my basic needs, including company.
One day a river mermaid hopped on board. She could tell from below that I hadn't been on land for a long time. She was beautiful. We became fast friends and eventually lovers.
She had legs when she was on deck and we spent many happy hours here together. I was still able to get news from the drylanders via the internet or on broadcasts. Things were getting worse and worse there.
I was happy though with my river life and girlfriend.
